Premier medical provider to strengthen Tufts Medical Center’s South Shore presence

Braintree, Mass. (July 23, 2013)—New England Quality Care Alliance (NEQCA), a network of nearly 1,600 independent community and academic physicians affiliated with Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children, announced today that Healthcare South, P.C. has signed a multi-year affiliation to join the Braintree based physician group.

“The Board of Healthcare South embarked on an eighteen month review of all the Eastern Massachusetts area network options,” said Dr. Steven Golden, President of Healthcare South, P.C.  “We looked at all of the care delivery models in an effort to select a long term partner that was focused on the needs of a medical practice delivering primary care to their patients.  For Healthcare South, a multi-site primary care only practice that values autonomy in the patient doctor relationship, NEQCA is the overall best choice.  NEQCA's support services, care delivery model and managed care contracts support primary care physicians who are involved in risk contracting and trying to hold the line on total medical expense, while maintaining the highest quality for their patients.  We are excited to be working with an organization whose quality performance and cost effective approach to care is leading the way with results.”

Currently affiliated with South Shore Physician Hospital Organization, Healthcare South has 26 primary care physicians and pediatricians located in Cohasset, Hanover, Marshfield, Quincy, Scituate and Weymouth.  Healthcare South also has 18 nurse practitioners, and provides care to more than 66,000 patients in the South Shore area.

“It is clear that Healthcare South’s decision to become members of our organization is based on our strong focus on quality performance, network clinical integration, and our efforts to improve the professional lives of our network physicians,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lasker, President and CEO of New England Quality Care Alliance.  “We believe NEQCA physicians are having a profound impact on our community and the lives of patients. This decision is validation of the contributions we make along with Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital to the delivery of high quality, affordable healthcare in Massachusetts.”

NEQCA brings resources to community practices so that physicians can achieve the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “Triple Aim” of improving the health of populations, enhancing individual patient care and limiting the increases in healthcare costs. Physician members of NEQCA use Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital as their preferred tertiary center when their patients have complex medical needs that require the most advanced care.

“Healthcare South is a premier, high performing medical group who has demonstrated success in delivering exceptional, integrated healthcare to patients in the communities they serve. They are an excellent fit for our network,” said Eric Beyer, President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center.  “We look forward to working with the leadership and physicians of Healthcare South, learning from their success, and sharing best practices across the entire NEQCA and Tufts Medical Center system.”

New England Quality Care Alliance provides an opportunity for its physician members to work together to drive, improve, and respond most effectively to changes in the delivery of healthcare, while maintaining control of their practices and experiencing professional satisfaction.  Earlier this month, Highland Healthcare Associates IPA, MetroWest Accountable Healthcare Organization, and Pediatric Associates, Inc. of Brockton, three key physician groups representing patients south, west and north of the city, elected to renew their memberships in NEQCA.
