May 18, 2016

New England Quality Care Alliance’s (NEQCA) Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Joseph Frolkis, M.D., Ph.D as NEQCA’s new President and Chief Executive Officer.

Earlier this year, NEQCA announced Dr. Frolkis as its Chief Medical Officer. Since then, Dr. Frolkis has made a positive impact on the organization of more than 1,800 physicians. Before joining NEQCA as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Frolkis was the Director of Primary Care, Associate Chief, Division of General Medicine and Primary Care, and Vice Chair for Primary Care in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  During his time at the Brigham, he had responsibility and accountability for large teams of employees, physicians and primary care practices, covering thousands of patient lives.  His work focused on developing and implementing a team-based model of primary care, pragmatic programs in population health, and an effective approach to primary care – specialty care coordination.

Prior to the Brigham, Dr. Frolkis was the President and CEO of New Milford Hospital, a 95-bed community hospital that was part of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System. Dr. Frolkis had also been Chief of the Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics, and Health Care Research at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, and Director of Clinical Operations in the Preventive Cardiology Program at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Frolkis obtained a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology before going to medical school.  Dr. Frolkis’ wife, Beth Overmoyer, M.D., is a Breast Oncologist at the Dana Farber Cancer Center.  He has four daughters and two grandsons.

“As a physician-leader, Dr. Frolkis has had a distinguished career, demonstrating expertise in managing and leading thoughtful, pragmatic, goal-driven change in both community and academic health care organizations,” said Dr. Jeffrey I. Lasker, who is about to retire as President and CEO of NEQCA. “His strategic accomplishments have always focused on improving the quality of care for patients, and the quality of professional life for clinicians, making him uniquely qualified to lead our organization successfully into the future.”

Dr. Frolkis will succeed Dr. Jeffrey I. Lasker, who has served as NEQCA’s President and CEO since 2005 and announced his intentions of retirement late last year.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as CEO and President of NEQCA and am eager to build upon the already successful framework that has been established,” said Dr. Frolkis. “It is a unique time in healthcare, and I look forward to leading a talented group of people who are dedicated to achieving NEQCA’s Quadruple Aim goals of better health, better patient experience, lower costs and improved physician satisfaction.”

Dr. Frolkis will be assuming his new role on June 6, 2016.
